About Haas Email Lists
The Haas Center maintains two email lists for announcing service-related opportunities:
service4all: This list is for announcing public service events of interest to the Stanford community. All members of the community may subscribe and post.
haas-programs: This list is for announcing service related programs available through the Haas Center for Public Service. All members of the community may subscribe but only Haas Center staff may post.
Please note: You may subscribe to one of these two email lists. Any announcements sent to haas-programs will also be sent to service4all.
To join or leave a list:
service4all: Send a blank email to service4all-join@lists.stanford.edu to join the list or service4all-leave@lists.stanford.edu to leave the list. In order to be confirmend, please click on the link in the confirmation email you receive back from the lists server.
haas-programs: Send a blank email to haas-programs-join@lists.stanford.edu to join the list or haas-programs-leave@lists.stanford.edu to leave the list. In order to be confirmed, please click on the link in the confirmation email you receive back from the lists server.
To enable digest mode (to receive consolidated email once per day):
1) Go to the following page:

2) Scroll down to the bottom of the page and enter your email address into the last box.
3) Click the “Unsubscribe or Edit Options” button.
4) Scroll down to “Your LISTNAME Options.” The second option is “Set Digest Mode.” Set this value to on.
5) Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click “Submit my Changes.”
6) Congrats! You’ve enabled digest mode.
To filter your email to a folder:
Filtering allows you to tell your mail client (e.g. Webmail, Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Apple Mail) to put messages matching certain criteria (say a sender or email list) into a folder automatically when you check your email. We’ve enabled prefixes to the subject lines on our lists to allow you to filter them easily. They are [svc4all] for “service4all” and [haas-prog] for “haas-programs.”
I. In Webmail
1) Log into http://webmail.stanford.edu.
2) Click the “Options” button at the top of the screen.
3) Under “Other Options” on the right, select “Filters.”
4) Click “Edit your Filter Rules.”
5) Click “New Rule.”
6) Give your filter a name (for example, “service4all filter”).
7) Select “Subject” from the pull down menu below “For an incoming message that matches:”
8) Type either [svc4all] or [haas-prog] into the box to the right of “Contains” depending on which list you’re trying to filter.
9) Select “Deliver to folder” from the pull down menu below “Do this:”
10) Either select the folder you wish the message to be delivered to or select “Create a New Folder.”
i. If you selected “Create a New Folder,” type the folder name into the popup box and click OK.
ii. Now select the new folder from the pull down menu.
11) Select “Save” to enable your filter.
II. In Mozilla Thunderbird
1) Create a folder to place your messages into by going to “File” -> “New Folder.”
2) Enter a name for your folder in the text box and select the parent folder from the list. Click “OK.”
3) Go to “Tools” -> “message filters.” Click “New.”
4) Give your filter a name (for example, “service4all filter”).
5) Under the section “For incoming messages that:” select “Subject” “contains” and then enter “[svc4all]” or “[haas-prog]” into the text box depending on which list you’re trying to filter.
6) Under the section “Perform these actions:” select “Move Message to” and pick the folder you created from the second pull down menu. Click “OK.”
7) Close the “Message Filters” window and you’re all set.
III. In Apple Mail
1) Create a new folder for you to put your messages into by selecting “Mailbox” -> “New Mailbox.”
2) Enter a name for your folder, select its location, and select “OK.”
3) Select “Mail” -> “Preferences.” Click the “Rules” button on the top right.
4) Click “Add Rule.”
5) Give your rule a description like “service4all filter.”
6) Under “If any of the following conditions are met:” select “Subject” “Contains” and enter either [svc4all] or [haas-prog] into the text box.
7) Under “Perform the following actions:”, select “Move Message” to the mailbox: and select your folder from the pull down menu.
8) Click OK.
IV.In Microsoft Outlook
1) Select “Tools” -> “Rules Wizard.”
2) Click “New.”
3) Under “Which type of rule do you want to create?” select “Check messages when they arrive” and click “Next.”
4) Under “Which condition(s) do you want to check?” select “with specific words in the message header.”
5) Under “Rule Description”, click “Specific Words.” Enter either “[svc4all]” or “[haas-prog]” into the text box in the popup window and click “OK.”
6) Click “Next.” Under “What do you want to do with the message?” select “move it to the specified folder.”
7) Under “Rule Description”, click “specified” in specified folder. Select the folder you want to move it to or create a new one by clicking the “New” button. Click “OK.”
8) Click “OK” to the “Message Rules” box.
9) Enter a name for your filter (e.g. “Service4all filter”), check that “Turn on this rule” is selected. Click “Finish.”
