Our mission calls on us to engage all in our campus community—students, staff, and faculty—in the shared work of advancing the public good.

This requires that we cultivate a culture of welcome and belonging, so that all in our community can bring their values, life experience, expertise, and moral commitments to bear on the pressing challenges facing our world.

We recognize diversity—of life experience, of thought, of social identities, and of perspectives—as an asset that enriches the Haas Center’s work.

We aspire to create inclusive learning environments where people of all backgrounds and identities are supported and valued and where intrinsic human dignity is recognized and honored.

We take an intersectional approach, acknowledging the complexity of human experience and that social, demographic, and personal experiences interact uniquely in each person; we promote the critical examination of biases, assumptions, vulnerabilities, and worldviews that shape our perspectives.

We engage both internally at the Haas Center and externally with partners and stakeholders on and off campus to ensure that all can thrive, bring their full selves, and do their best work.

We are committed to building bridges, establishing and maintaining respectful relationships, and creating an equitable workplace where the contributions of all members are valued, celebrated and supported.

Guided by the Principles of Ethical and Effective Service, we are galvanized by the promise and imperative to create a more just world for all, free from discrimination and bias, and to equip Stanford students with the knowledge, skills, and commitments they will need as citizens and change agents in their communities.
