Dear Haas Center community,

In light of the events of the last weeks, we want to affirm our support for you. While it can seem counterintuitive to prioritize self-care during a time when so much is happening, carrying the weight of these events takes a toll in multiple ways, especially for those most directly affected. We hope that you are able to take time to care for yourselves and find strength in community.

There is more to do to attend to our shared humanity, to center the most marginalized, and to dismantle the structures of white supremacy. We are deeply, unequivocally committed to this work, and the ongoing violence reminds us that we must not waver.

Profound change is possible. In the last year, we’ve experienced pivotal moments that spark hope. Whatever your path – whether rewriting policy and law, galvanizing change through activism, pursuing justice-oriented research or philanthropy, or ensuring that people’s urgent basic needs are met – we are here to support you on that journey.

The loss in these moments of violence against Black, Asian, Latinx, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ people and countless communities can be overwhelming, and while we are called to act, it can be hard to know what to do next. Being in community reconnects us with our purpose, nurtures our sense of hope, and offers healing.

We are here to listen and support you.

Sincerely,
Haas Center staff
