Program Associate for Environmental Sustainability

Alex Wheeler

Alex is the program associate for environmental sustainability in the Community Engaged Learning and Research (CELR) unit of the Haas Center for Public Service.

Alex received her bachelor's degree in Community, Environment & Planning from the University of Washington, Seattle in 2018. During her undergraduate experience she was heavily involved in food justice activism, promoting a just and ethical food policy with the Real Food Challenge. After returning to the Bay Area, she served as an Americorps / Climate Corps Fellow at the San Mateo County Office of Education in the Environmental Literacy and Sustainability Initiative. In this role she provided administrative and logistical support for teacher professional development programs, an environmental community of practice, and a sustainability awards program. In addition, she supported the launch of Youth Climate Ambassadors, a high school leadership program for San Mateo County youth to deepen their sustainability knowledge and create their own community impact projects.

Outside of work, Alex enjoys cooking vegan meals, hiking, working out, and learning to skateboard.
