Elon joined the Haas Center in September 2017 and is responsible for providing support to the executive director and faculty director, managing office operations, and coordinating center-wide events.
Elon graduated from Stanford University with a BA in Medical Anthropology. While an undergraduate, she participated in the Central Valley Migrant Workers Healthcare Alternative Spring Break trip and was a member of the service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega. Her experiences with the Alternative Spring Break trip was key in re-igniting her passion for becoming a compassionate doctor who cares about and connects with underserved populations. Before joining the Haas Center as an Executive Project Coordinator, she worked as a research assistant in the Veterans Administration (VA) at Menlo Park. Her research focused on assessing a process improvement method (Lean Six Sigma) implemented across 10 VA hospitals across the nation. Prior to that, she was a research assistant with the Cardiovascular Department at the Stanford School of Medicine where she recruited patients in order to create a large database of blood samples for Stanford Hospital researchers.
Elon plans to pursue a medical school education within the next year. In her free time, she likes to hike, meet with friends and travel to Minnesota to visit family. She came to the Bay Area for college and does not plan to leave anytime soon since it reminds her so much of her birthplace, Ethiopia.
