Pate Jessop
Pate is a junior majoring in Human Biology with a concentration in Embodied Illness: Biological and Humanistic Perspectives on Cancer and minoring in Spanish. At Stanford, Pate works as a Community Engaged Learning Coordinator for SPANLANG 108SL, a Spanish service-learning course on migration and human rights, conducts cancer research in the Genetics Department at Stanford Medical School, volunteers in spiritual care at Stanford Hospital, and serves as a counselor at Camp Kaleidoscope for children whose parents are affected by cancer. Between his freshman and sophomore years, Pate served a two-year church mission, collaborating with immigrant communities in Sunnyvale and Mountain View to support basic needs, while also helping lead the Reach Foundation, a nonprofit providing scholarships and long-term mentorship to first-generation college students. Looking forward, Pate plans to pursue medicine to provide compassionate, culturally responsive care to his patients and engage in public health and organizing efforts that address structural barriers to health, particularly in immigrant communities. Outside of academics and service, he enjoys bluegrass music, volleyball, and time in the mountains.
