Sophia joined the Haas Center in the fall of 2016 to start and oversee a new high school mentoring program. Prior to coming to the Haas Center, Sophia worked as the Director of Field Management at Jumpstart for Young Children in the San Francisco office for three years, focusing on compliance and site quality management. Before that, she lived and worked in Boston for almost 15 years, coordinating and managing middle school and high school community-based youth programs. Her longest stint was for five years at the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center as the Youth Program Director. Her program development and management experience and focus areas include youth leadership development, racial and ethnic identity development, college access for first generation, immigrant youth, and anti-oppression education.
Sophia has a master’s degree in education from UMass Boston and a bachelor’s degree in history and biology from Williams College. She also has a Hatha yoga teacher certification from 7 Centers Yoga Arts in Sedona, AZ.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and navigating the joys and challenges of being first time parents to their son. Before they became parents, they enjoyed hiking, being in the outdoors, cooking, visiting farmers' markets, and spending time with family. As a transplant from the East Coast, Sophia appreciates the more laid back pace of life in the Bay Area and especially loves the weather and the fresh produce available all year round!
