Working with Minors

Main content start

Information for student groups that are hosting or participating in an event that has children under the age of 18 in attendance.

All students and student groups working with children/minors (any person under the age of 18) must meet several requirements designed to protect the youth and Stanford students alike.  Basic information about those requirements and links to resources are provided on this page.

If you have any questions or concerns, reach out to cardinalcommitment@stanford.edu.

Background Check and Training

The Live Scan Background Check

A background check is required of all Stanford persons, including students, who are working with minors.  The background check is a process called Live Scan.  Live Scan is an electronic fingerprinting, which can be done at a variety of locations across California, or at an on-campus free Live Scan session (currently curtailed during the pandemic, but will return when the campus returns to normal operations).

Working with minors trainings

All students participating in public service that engages with youth are required to complete the Working with Minors training, WWM-1000, in STARS.  This training is required for organizations that are planning a one-time event with youth participation, as well as for organizations that work with youth in an on-going capacity.  The training is offered online asynchronously.  Please go to STARS on Axess and search for WWM-1000.
