Program Director, Early Education

Renee Scott

As Director of Early Education for Education Partnerships, a place-based initiative, at the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford University, Renee C. Scott oversees two Haas Center community engaged-learning programs. Preschool Counts prepares Stanford students to support children at a local school in their development of primary math skills for future success in elementary school. The Ravenswood Reads program partners with the San Mateo County Library to pair Stanford student volunteers with kindergarten through third grade students to provide one-on-one tutoring in reading.

Renee has been an educator for over 20 years, having served as an elementary school teacher, a professional development teacher-leader, and a teacher-candidate educator/supervisor. As a graduate student, she studied the role of vision in new teacher development and word-reading instruction and tutoring. More recently she studied the difference between tutoring online and in-person during summer school reading instruction. She holds a Master’s degree in education and a PhD in literacy, curriculum, and teacher education from Stanford University.
